What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a nearly 20 year background in multi-trade residential construction and maintenance, and a formal education from Mt. San Jacinto College and UCLA. I am an active member of InterNACHI (International Association of Certified Home Inspectors) and IAC2 (International Association of Certified Indoor Air Consultants) and hold nearly 30 certifications in various building science systems and subjects.

How Did You Get Started Doing This Kind Of Work?

My entire family is in either construction or real estate. I was exposed to both at a very young age and was blessed with mechanical aptitude. Being involved in building projects and managing ongoing maintenance; I have developed a deep appreciation for sound building practices, safety, and efficiency. I felt compelled to use this experience to help others.

What Types Of Customers Have You Worked With?

I have worked with buyers, sellers, real estate agents, and investors. I always strive for honesty, integrity, and giving my clients a clear picture of their home (or prospective home) in terms they understand. My work is not done until my client is completely satisfied.

What Advice Would You Give to a Consumer Looking to Hire a Service Provider in Your Line of Work?

In the state of California, there is no licensing authority for the home inspection industry. At a minimum, a consumer should look for a home inspector who is certified by a major industry association and carries E&O/General liability insurance. Last but definitely not least, consider the background of your prospective home inspector. In most cases, a retired security guard-turned inspector is not going to be as personally invested as an inspector who has committed themselves to building science from a young age and 1st career choice. Choosing an inspector with a construction/maintenance/engineering background is a prudent choice.
